There are 2,429 doctors registered with the Medical Council, that is 19.3 doctors per 10,000 population.

1,077 (44.3%) doctors, including 300 specialists, were employed in the public sector.

There are 366 dentists, of whom 58 in the public sector.

The number of qualified nurses and midwives in the public and private sectors was 4,125.

The average consultation fees charged by a doctor in private setup is-

​

• General Practitioner: Mauritian Rupees 500-700 (USD 15-20)

• Specialist: Mauritian Rupees (USD 40-55)

DENTAL HEALTH

The total number of attendances at dental clinics (static and mobile) in 2014 was 318,837, out of which 60,151, that is 18.9%, were among children aged under 12 years.

PRIVATE HEALTH INSTITUTIONS

The total number of cases seen for treatment, including admissions, at the 17 private hospitals and clinics having in-patient services was 227,954 in 2014.

 

25,938 of these cases have undergone surgical operations and procedures.

3,446 live births and stillbirths that occurred in these institutions.
